Our Story

Engineers for Ukraine (E4UA) was established in 2022 as a non-profit organization with a mission to support Ukraine's defense efforts by leveraging the skills and expertise of volunteer engineers, software developers, DevOps specialists, cybersecurity experts, and military professionals from around the world. Recognizing the power of the global community to make a significant impact by utilizing open source and crowdsourced data, E4UA envisioned an organization that could harness the talents of dedicated professionals to build secure, scalable, and cutting-edge data systems and platforms that would bolster Ukraine's defense capabilities and enable a coordinated and efficient response to evolving threats.

The E4UA team originated on February 27th, 2022, three days after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, when a small group of engineers and students in Boston, MA, came together to discuss how they could contribute their technical skills to help Ukraine from afar. As the months passed, they discovered that their passion for engineering for Ukraine was shared by scores of people worldwide, from diverse national and professional backgrounds.

Since its inception, Engineers for Ukraine has tirelessly worked to create a robust network of volunteers united by a shared passion for contributing their skills and knowledge for the greater good. The organization has grown from a handful of founding members to a talented group of over 50 volunteers from North America, South America, Europe, and the Caucasus, with significant industry, academic, and military experience. E4UA has also trained enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers without any relevant experience to become integral members of the team.

Core Values: Integrity, Collaboration & Transparency

As an independent organization, E4UA is not beholden to any large tech companies. Our ability to make a meaningful impact stems from the passion, dedication, and expertise of our volunteer network, as well as the support and collaboration of our partner organizations and smaller donations.

Collaborating closely with the Ukrainian government and military forces, E4UA works on various research and engineering projects to aid in the Ukrainian war effort. These projects focus on areas such as data analysis, machine learning, mapping and visualization, and early warning systems, all aimed at enhancing Ukraine's security and resilience. The organization emphasizes transparency, integrity, and adaptability, striving to develop innovative solutions that stay one step ahead of the ever-changing landscape of modern warfare.

Engineers for Ukraine is driven by the belief that the collective power of the global engineering community can profoundly impact the future of Ukraine. By tapping into the spirit of collaboration, innovation, and commitment, E4UA aims to support the nation in safeguarding its sovereignty, democracy, and people. Together, we stand with Ukraine as a force for change and a beacon of hope in a turbulent world.
